Lessons from a Transformative Journey

A Year on the Board: Lessons from a Transformative Journey

Almost a year ago, I stepped into a role I never imagined for myself: a board member for a company undergoing one of its most significant transitions.

The experience has been nothing short of a masterclass in leadership, decision-making, and the delicate balance between culture and business.

Here are my key learnings so far:

1. Say Yes Before You Feel Ready

When I was offered the position, I was both honored and intimidated. But I’ve realized that being at the table isn’t just about having the answers—it’s about asking the right questions.

Over time, I’ve seen my perspectives spark ideas and inspire meaningful discussions.

2. The Power of Collective Thinking

Watching a CEO take bold risks while navigating a pivot is humbling.

The shift from a declining service model to a bold new AI-driven strategy is high-stakes, but the diversity of perspectives on the board has turned challenges into opportunities. Five minds in a room are always stronger than one.

3. Culture Needs to Meet Reality

I’ve always been passionate about workplace culture, but this experience has reinforced a harsh truth: even the best culture won’t save a business that’s not viable.

The founder’s focus on people-first leadership is inspiring, but as a board, we remind him that the business must come first sometimes.

4. Surround Yourself with Strength

Leadership isn’t about doing it all yourself.

In our meetings, the CEO actively seeks challenge and critique from us, the board. This makes each meeting full of fresh ideas and resolutions. His openness and resilience have been a lesson in humility and growth.

If there’s one takeaway from this journey, it’s this: whether you’re leading a team, a company, or your own career, don’t do it alone.

Surround yourself with people who challenge you, support you, and push you toward clarity.

And if you’re looking for a board member or coach who knows how to balance culture with business acumen, let’s talk.

Welcome to Intandid!
It’s nice to meet you.
