Last Friday, November 22nd, 2024, we had the pleasure of leading a Feedback Training Workshop at the Yangpu Campus of the LFS (Lycée Français of Shanghai).
Together with the school’s managers from the both campuses, we explored how to turn feedback into a tool for growth, understanding, and team connection.
The one-day session combined theory, practical frameworks like SBI (Situation, Behavior, Impact), and interactive role-plays to bring concepts to life.
An example of SBI in action would be:
What NOT to do:
“Your research presentations are always so dry and uninspiring. You should try harder to make them interesting.”
This is vague, judgmental, and offers no guidance.
What to do instead:
“In last week’s seminar, your presentation on data analysis included detailed information but lacked visuals or examples to engage the audience. Adding these elements could make your findings more impactful and accessible.”
This is constructive, specific, and suggests a clear path for improvement.
Managers practiced delivering constructive feedback with clarity and tact while tackling real-world scenarios.
The discussions were dynamic and insightful, touching on topics like the Johari Window, Growth Mindset, and the importance of regular feedback.
Here’s What Stood Out to Participants:
- “The SBI methodology is practical and so easy to apply!”
- “Preparation is everything—being factual makes all the difference.”
- “I appreciated the energy and interactive format. The tools are super relevant for my team!”
Giving feedback is an art that requires preparation and a solid foundation.
The workshop left participants with actionable strategies to improve communication and foster stronger relationships within their teams.
The LFS is also offering 1-on-1 follow-up session for their team members to dive deeper into their specific feedback challenges, practice delivery, or bring up any lingering questions following the workshop.
As we approach year-end reviews, it’s the perfect opportunity to refine these skills and set the stage for impactful conversations.
If creating a stronger feedback culture resonates with your team’s goals, let us connect and explore how we can make it happen together.
