I’m passionate about underwater hockey—and last year, I had the honor of bringing this unique sport to an entire company team, from sales to back office. The goal? To show them what high-performing collaboration really looks like.
Underwater hockey is unlike any other sport: we play while holding our breath. We can almost never talk to each other. Every pass, every move, every decision happens in silence. At first, collaboration feels impossible—but that’s exactly where the lessons emerge.
The teams that win aren’t the strongest individually—they’re the ones who train together, review videos, analyze replays, and give constant, ego-free feedback.
Even in my own game, my teammates remind me when I’m not forward enough. I learn to trust them while stepping up where needed. Every session is a live lesson in listening, adapting, and supporting one another.
During my talk about collaboration, the team realized a powerful truth: in business, just like in underwater hockey, silence doesn’t mean nothing is happening. Collaboration is happening—below the surface. Feedback, trust, and constant adaptation are what allow teams to succeed under pressure.
This session sparked a reflection every company should consider: Is your culture a “family,” where people care for each other but growth is slow? Or is it a high-performing team, able to hold its breath together, adapt constantly, and deliver results?
Corporate retreats and team-building events are the perfect opportunity to explore these lessons in action. Bringing teams together in immersive experiences like this helps them:
-
Build trust and confidence in each other
-
Communicate effectively under pressure
-
Give and receive feedback without ego
-
Collaborate seamlessly to achieve results
High-performing teams aren’t defined by individuals—they’re defined by how well they connect, support, and learn from each other.
Underwater hockey is just one metaphor—but the principles are universal, actionable, and transformational.
If your company is looking to go beyond ordinary team-building exercises and truly transform collaboration, this kind of immersive talk will leave a lasting impact on your people and culture.
